The first day of Lent is here and for Wisconsin this means fish, fish and more fish - beer battered, lightly breaded, pan fried, broiled, baked, buttered - anyway you like it you can find it. Fish Dishes Swimming in Historic Downtown Waukesha

The Waukesha Business Improvement District announces that many restaurants in historic downtown Waukesha are offering unique dining options for individuals looking for new fish fry options and meatless offerings during the coming months.



“A traditional fish fry is as Wisconsin as it gets,” said Karen Richards, executive director of the Waukesha Business Improvement District. “Our downtown restaurants offer some of the best fish frys around as well as amazing vegetarian dining options.”



Participating businesses offering specials and discounts include:



Black Trumpet Pasta & Chop House (inside the Clarke Hotel), 314 W. Main St., On Wednesdays, enjoy the Endless Pasta Bowl special with a variety of sauces including meatless options. On Friday, be sure to check out the All–You–Can-Eat Fish Fry that includes baked or fried cod, tarter sauce, fries, and coleslaw. The Early Bird price is $11.99, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.; after 5:30, $13.99. Perch is also available most Fridays at an additional charge.



Coffee N’ Beans, 234 W. Main St., #5, serves up a delicious Clam Chowder on Fridays for lunch.



Rochester Deli, 143 W. Broadway, Wednesdays during Lent, try the Crabby Po’boy, a fried-to- perfection crab cake delicately dressed with roasted red pepper mayo and arugula on a French roll. Accompanied by Spicy Sweet Potato Chips, Black Bean and Corn Salad, and a pickle spear for only $7.25. On Fridays, don’t miss the Early Bird Fish Dinner served 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for $7.95. Early Bird includes lightly breaded fried Cod served with Dan’s homemade potato pancakes and applesauce or seasoned cottage fries; includes fresh coleslaw, rye roll, butter, and tarter sauce. Friday Fish Dinners offer Chef Dan’s Specialty pan fried Canadian Walley Pike for $10.95; Baked Icelandic Cod for $8.95; or fried Italian Breaded Cod for $7.95. All dinners are served with homemade potato pancakes and applesauce, or oven browned seasoned red potatoes, fresh coleslaw, rye roll, and butter. Dine in or carryout available.



Sprizzo Gallery Caffe, 363 W. Main St., Each Wednesday at Sprizzo, a different fish soup will be featured including homemade Salmon Chowder, Crab Chowder, and the ever popular Fish Surprise as well as a Tuscan Tuna Melt full of tuna, Greek olives, green pepper, onions, sun dried tomatoes, fresh tomatoes, and melted provolone cheese. On Fridays, stop in for the Baked Cod Sandwich with dill mayo, tomato, cheddar cheese and of course, fresh baked Cod and the creamy Cod Chowder Soup. Vegetarian dishes served everyday include Vegetarian Chili, a Garden Grilled sandwich, a Cheese and Tomato Grill, the Zo Veggie, and amazing homemade Hummus.



Steaming Cup, 340 W. Main St., offers a great variety of vegetarian options daily including a Roasted Vegetable Wrap featuring roast vegetables with portabella mushrooms, sprinkled with the Steaming Cup’s specially seasoned olive oil and served on a flatbread or rolled into a tomato basil wrap. Two new vegetarian offerings are being served for a limited time including the Curried Pepper Patch served on a honey-sweet curry bread with the sweetest peppers available and the Olympian Olive Loaf, slightly melted Feta cheese with tomato on an olive focaccia bread.

Rich in history and packed with contemporary flavor, Historic Downtown Waukesha & Riverwalk is easy to find with two way streets and ample parking that make it a friendly option. From I-94 exit at Hwy F south to Barstow, turn left to enter the Downtown Business District. From I-43, exit at Hwy 164 north; continue north to Main Street, turn left to enter the Downtown Business District. A variety of parking options are available including on-street parking, a variety of public parking lots and two parking structures.
