Let's be Good Friends

This blog post is taking a slightly different angle than my typicaly restaurant review or recipe. This one is going to be more about being a Good Friend to others in your local community and around the world!

About a year ago, I decided that I wanted to volunteer some of my time and help an organization in need. I was lucky enough to find an opportunity to use my marketing and PR skills with Good Friend, Inc of Waukesha. Incorporated in 2007, Good Friend has reached thousands of staff and students through their presentations to create autism awareness, teach acceptance of differences, and foster empathy for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) among their typically-developing peers.

In the past year, I have helped publicize their annual bowling fundraiser, the mural painted on Discount Liquor in Waukesha (autism-spectrum children and their peers helped paint the leaf border), advertise discussion groups they had to help them gain knowledge and research, publicize their annual FUNdraiser, work the fundraiser and even donated a blanket to the fundraiser that received an amazing bid! I really enjoy working with the organization and can't wait to see them grow and prosper in the future years.

Currently, Good Friend is competing for a Pepsi Refresh grant to help fund their middle school autism awareness, acceptance and empathy video. Pepsi holds voting competitions for great ideas every month and this month is Good Friend's turn. They are competing against other ideas in the $25K division. Currently they are ranked 73rd and need to stay in the top 100 to be able to continue competing next month. However, if major groundwork can be made in the next 8 days and we can get them in the top 10 - the idea is funded!

I know this blog post is a bit late, but if you read it and follow my simple instructions below, you can give Good Friend 3 votes a day for the next 8 days! That would be a great help and everyone involved with the organization would really appreciate it.

1 - Follow this link to Pepsi Refresh. You will need to set up an account and login before you can place a vote. You will not receive spam and you can then vote for up to 10 different ideas each day.
2 - You can vote from Facebook. Find the Pepsi Refresh Voting App and "Allow" it to do its thing so you can search for Good Friend Inc and then place your vote. Again, you can vote up to 10 different ideas each day.
3 - Text 103636 to the number 73774 each day to place a vote for Good Friend. You will receive a confirmation that it went thru and Good Friend gets another vote.

So if you have 5 minutes a day, an email address, a Facebook account and a Texting plan, I ask that you take that time to help those that need your help. The co-founders of Good Friend Inc want this video grant so bad so they can bring attention to a need that is so great right now. If you want to learn more about Good Friend Inc, please visit their website.

THANK YOU!
