Ok, again I took a long "pause" from writing and I have some other places to write about as well, but I have to tell you all about my dinner at Fleming's because it is the creme de la creme in my book.
Adam took me to Fleming's Prime Steak House & Wine Bar on Saturday night and although it is a franchise, the food is definitely one of a kind. We made 5:45 reservations and upon entering the restaurant, I knew I was in for a treat. We could have checked our jackets if we wanted to and also sat at the bar and had a cocktail first, but we were hungry and wanted to get to eating. Although it had formal ways of doing things, it was casual as well. We were able to sit back and relax and I didn't feel too out of my element. We were taken to a nice table with two short walls next to it, so it was semi-private. Though near the kitchen, I was not bothered by the noise once. I also had a great view of their wine room and the entire restaurant was decorated with magnums of different wines all over.
Our waitress was amazing and explained about the specials for the evening as well as that the entrees come a la carte and sides were to be ordered extra. They had over 100 wines available to choose from on the first 4 pages of the menu and I was in awe in that alone. I chose a MacMurray Pinot Noir for myself and I chose a Hogue Merlot for Adam. He was not a wine drinker but was curious and drank some of it. (I finished it with my dessert)!
They brought out a "snack platter" (I'm sure there is a better name for it, but that's all I can come up with at the moment) which had crackers, celery and radishes on it. There was a brie butter spread which was excellent, and a cabernet spread that was a little too vinegary for me.
We decided on an appetizer to start and what an appetizer it was. It was called the Chilled Seafood Tower for Two and had Lobster, 2 types of crab, shrimp and other yummies on it. I have never had such a grand display of seafood in front of me and if the restaurant wasn't so dark or formal, I would have taken pictures to share. The king crab legs were already split and the cocktail and mustard sauces that were served with the appetizer were excellent pairings. This was my first time having lobster and remembering it and it was better than I imagined.
Then came the entrees. The night special of a steak and stuffed salmon sounded great but I couldn't get my mind off the petite filet mignon on the menu. And a baked potato sounded so good to go with it. So that was my choice, done medium which of course they did perfectly and the potato came loaded with butter, sour cream, bacon and cheese. The steak just melted in my mouth and I savored every single bite.
Adam ordered the bone in ribeye and compared to my filet of about 3 inches wide and 2 inches tall, his ribeye filled his entire plate. He ordered it med-well and again, they did an excellent job. He ordered grilled asparagus on the side which was excellent as well.
And of course once the waitress mentioned the lava cake dessert that cooks while you enjoy your entree, we had to have that as well. I have heard of lava cakes before and in recent shows I have watched, they have been talking about their molten center and I never understood. It came out about 10 minutes after we finished our entrees and was plated perfectly for ultimate enjoyment. It had raspberries and a mint leaf ganish on top with two small scoops of ice cream on the side. We were also offered their homemade vanilla whipped cream to eat with the cake and that I couldn't resist. The second I spooned into the cake, I now understood the lava part. Gooey chocolate goodness began running from the middle of the cake and the warmth of the cake mixed with the cold ice cream was completely and totally satisfying for my palate.
Of course all of this goodness comes at a high price and this was definitely a treat that I am very happy I could enjoy (with the perfect company)! I am very thankful that Adam took me there and we had time to talk and relax. Although I was pretty stuffed when I left, I wasn't in pain (I have eaten to that point before - I think Adam might have been there!) I won't be going back there as often as I would like too, but I will definitely recommend this place to anyone that wants a very nice night out. Anniversary, promotion, intimate birthday - this is the place to go!
