Last week Wednesday, the weather was absolutely perfect. I'm so glad that summer is on the way. My guy came over for the night and I made us meatball subs, another Ree Drummond-Pioneer Woman success (more on that later). We ate with the patio door open and enjoyed the fresh air.
I thought it would be nice for us to enjoy a walk after dinner and I had the perfect location for us - the Gasthaus parking lot for the car show. I was 90% sure that they were going to have the show because it was after Memorial Day, it was a Wednesday night, and the weather was gorgeous.
I typically hear the band playing from my patio to know that the show is on for the night, but I couldn't hear it this night. But as soon as we got about a block away, we could hear the live band rocking out.
The show was completely packed, both with cars and attendees. Gasthaus really puts on quite the event. They have food and drinks for sale and a live band, so it's more than just looking at cars.
People were dancing by the band tent as well.
My guy and I wandered up and down the rows looking at all the cars. We noticed that all the spots were full and that cars were even parked in a grassy area so we went to check those out too.
My jaw dropped to the floor when I saw the best car ever.......a DeLorean!!!!! Sure there wasn't a flux capacitor or time circuits in the car, but this was the first time I had ever seen one up close. I am a huge Back to the Future movie fan, so seeing this car made my night - heck, it made my week!
I completely geeked out and checked out all the details of the car - the brushed aluminum exterior, the wing doors, the trunk with the engine in it. The only thing I didn't get to see was the under the hood because the owner had that closed.
There were a few modifications since the 80s including a DVD player in the dash and I think new seats, but other than that, this was a beauty and I'm so glad I got to see it.
After my guy dragged me away from the DeLorean (kicking and screaming - just kidding, but internally I was), we walked around the rest of the show. I saw an old Cutlass and had a flashback to high school where my friends and I created the "Cutlass Club." All four of us had Cutlasses and two of them had ones that resembled the one below.
This car reminds me of Austin Powers!
So many really cool cars. I can't imagine the number of hours of work that have been put in by the owners to keep these cars running. They just don't build them like they used too.
I'm trying to imagine what a car show is going to be like in 30 years, and I just don't think it's going to have the appeal that one like this does.
I think we will definitely make a stop again this summer and I hope that my dad can stop and see it. He was a mechanic for 34 years and loves classic cars. I think he would really enjoy this show.

Overheard Vol. 3
So apparently tonight is rev up your engine and let everyone know what you got under that hood night.
At least 4 cars have revved up and peeled out from some business or road near me. Exact location unknown truthfully. But not only do they peel out squealing and all, they keep at it down Grandview.
Don't get me wrong, I love me some classic car engine revving and wandering around car shows and riding passenger in something speedy. But Grandview is a busy road all the time and I always see cops so I don't get why they would choose this road? It's not even car show night, so maybe these folks aren't familiar with the area?
Good luck to them, hope they are driving safely.

Waukesha County Fair
You may or may not know that my company works media relations and promotions for the Waukesha County Fair . And for the last eight years, I have put in the extra hours to make sure we get the Fair the best media coverage we are capable of for this organization.
We have had good Fairs and bad (many more good than bad, but you can't control the weather) but regardless, I could not ask to work with a nicer group of volunteers and one heck of an amazing Executive Director who put their heart and soul into this Fair to give you the best event in Waukesha County every year. If you see them on the Fairgrounds when you go (yes when, not if!), please thank them for all their work.
As a Foodie, you know that I am always excited when I get the information on the new foods and vendors at this year's Fair. And again this year, there is no shortage of new and unique eats. I am personally looking forward to trying the Reuben nachos, bacon cream cheese on a stick and John Deere churned ice cream. (I caught a glimpse of this in action at the Jefferson County Fair this weekend and you will be pretty amazed by this feat.)
Not to mention we have some of the Fairgoers' faves back this year - Catfish Johnny's, Black Angus sandwiches, cream puffs, fudge, Silver Spur, jumbo turkey legs and much, much more. You cannot leave this Fair wishing for more variety. We have it all covered!
Every year, I promise myself that by the end of Sunday, I can treat myself to a funnel cake and gorge on the whole thing myself. But I have yet to keep this promise to myself. By the time I am done working and remember to get one, the food vendors are already closing up shop. So it's my goal this year to have one on Saturday night (instead of waiting until Sunday). I'll just walk more on Sunday instead of ride in my snazzy golf cart :)
There is so much more to the Fair than just food, and I'm glad that I get to see it all - Demo Derby, Live Music, 4-H Exhibits, Truck Pulls, Rides, Games, Vendors, Livestock Auction, Alligators, Fun Run, Classic Car Show, Pancake Breakfast, Animals and again, so much more. Just check out that cake above, such detail and skill from someone so young! I love seeing this sort of dedication and these kids are going to be the ones most likely taking care of me when I'm older. This make me feel really good.
I hope you have some time this weekend to come out to the Fair and if you have never been, come see what it's all about. There are great deals almost everyday to help you save on admission and once you are on the grounds, almost everything is free (midway, rides and souvenirs excluded).
